About the School

The Birla School of Law (BSOL) under Birla Global University, Bhubaneswar has been established with a goal to be the best destination for aspiring new-generation lawyers. It is committed to redefine ‘quality’ in legal education with state-of-the-art facilities, best of infrastructure and the finest faculty.

The school provides quality teaching in the field of law and interdisciplinary studies. Students are provided opportunities for internship and placement. Our students also participate in advocacy, legal aid activities and are also encouraged to conduct independent research in specific area(s) of interest.

Birla Global University has entered into multiple MOUs and collaboration to facilitate internship and research opportunities for the students of BSOL (Birla School of Law). These include tie-ups with various Universities, Law -firms and civil societies.

The intake capacity for 5 years integrated BBA,LL.B (Hons) is 60 students per batch .The minimum qualification prescribed for the students seeking admission is +2 pass in Arts /Science /Commerce with a minimum marks of 45%.

  • J-Gate Social & Management sciences : J-Gate is an electronic gateway to global e-journal literature. Launched in 2001 by Informatics India Limited, J-Gate provides seamless access to millions of journal articles available online offered by 8,750 + Publishers.

Legal Aid

The student and faculty initiative of having a legal aid clinic has a long tradition at Birla School of Law, where the students are actively involved in visiting prisons, courts and related places for hands- on training and learning.

Moot Court Competition (MCC)

Birla School of Law has a rich culture of mooting among the students. To help, prepare and train the students in their mooting exercises, the University has a Moot Court Hall carefully designed to match the standards of the Supreme Court of India and the High Courts. In addition to providing a conducive and competitive environment, the university extends all possible help and financial support (as per the University norms) to the students to participate in moot court competitions, seminars, conferences and workshops at the national and international level. BSOL organizes Intra Moot Court Competitions on an annual basis to promote the culture of mooting among the students.

Student Bar Association (SBA)

The Student Bar Association (SBA) comprises the full time students of the university who may meet as a General Body. The Dean of the Law School is the Chief Patron of the SBA. The SBA actively tries to further interest of students in different verticals with the help of different dedicated committees and its members. The efforts put in by the committees tackle different activities and aspects ranging from academic reforms, cultural activities, sports, moot court participations, library reforms etc. The body works in harmony with the university administration by putting forward suggestions and demands for reforms and the administration considers and addresses all such suggestions put forwards.

Halls of Residence

BGU has adequate on and off campus hostel facilities for the students. Both hostels provide at-par ultra-modern living environs. Rooms in hostels can be used on triple sharing basis. The hostels are designed to provide a proper mix of privacy and a unique social experience.

Sports

Playgrounds and Courts for outdoor sports like Football, Cricket, Volley-Ball, Basketball, Kabaddi and Badminton, and tracks for Cycling are available on the campus. Indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess and Carrom are also available

Health Centre

Round-the-clock medical facility is available in the campus wherein a lady nurse and a pharmacist are available 24×7 with essential medicines. A senior Medical Officer visits the campus thrice in a week for consultation and can also be contacted any time in case of an emergency.

Campus Gym

A well-equipped Gymnasium is available for students on the campus. Male and Female students have been allotted separate timings to use the facilities at the Gym.

Mess and Cafeteria

While there is a regular Mess which serves Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks and Dinner to the students as per the Menu decided by the Students Conduit, there is also the Cafeteria – B’cafe’ in the campus which serves a variety of snacks to cater to the students’ taste buds.

Tuck Shop

The Tuck Shop on campus caters to the basic requirements of students i.e., stationeries, packed food items, toiletries, etc. It also offers Mobile Recharge, Photocopy and Spiral-binding services to students on payment basis.

Laundry

Centralized Laundry services are available on the campus with skilled manpower for the laundry operations.

ATM

ATM of UCO Bank is available in the Campus to provide banking facilities to the students and staff. It is located at the entrance of the BGU campus.

Transportation

Shuttle Bus Service : The university provides transport facilities between the campus and Bhubaneswar city during fixed days/timings.

Clubs and Conduits

  • Student Activities : Several Student Conduits and Committees have been formed under which different activities are carried out throughout the year by the students.
  • Sports Conduit : Facilities are available on campus to engage students in several sporting activities throughout the year. The sports conduit organises various events both within the institute and also takes on the responsibility of forming teams for different competitions in intercollegiate events.
  • Cultural Conduit : The executive members organise various functions and festivals with the help of other student volunteers.
  • Food Conduit : The food conduit coordinates and assists the campus mess in preparing the monthly menu for all the meals i.e., breakfast, lunch, evening tea/coffee along with snacks and dinner. Besides this, the conduit also organises special meals on special occasions to the satisfaction of the students on the campus.
  • Quizzing & Debating Club : Organises quizzes and debates within the campus and also ensures participation of teams in intercollegiate events.
  • Discipline Committee : Members of this conduit ensure that discipline is maintained within the campus, in the hostel and in the mess. Any observations of deviations are dealt with deftly and differences are resolved between the differing individuals at the earliest.
  • Editorial Committee : Members of the committee ensure that all the events are recorded and reported in our in- house Newsletter.
  • CCR Committee : This committee is the single-window for contacting Organisations to invite them to the campus for various activities like guest lectures, student interactions, projects, internships, final placements etc.
  • Media & PR Committee : Members of this committee maintain relations with the local and national media houses and ensure that all events conducted by the University are given due coverage.
  • Photography : The members of this club are responsible for recording the various events on and off the campus through the ‘eye of the lens’. Records of all the memories captured are then maintained in the library for future use.
  • Graphics : Members provide support to all the conduits and committees by creating the art and graphics required to be designed for various events. They are innovative and bursting with creativity.
  • CSR Committee : This committee spearheads and guides the Corporate Social Activities undertaken by the students of the campus.
  • Social Media Committee : This committee forefronts the activities in the social media space disseminating information and inviting participation in discussions and knowledge exchange from the external world.

  • Q1. What are the different Law Programs offered by Birla School of Law, Birla Global University? What is the duration of each course?
    Birla School of Law offers a Five Integrated Law program which is BBA, LL.B (Hons). The duration of Law program is 5 years (ten semesters). An academic year normally comprises of an odd semester (Aug to Dec) and an even semester (Jan to June).

  • Q2. Can a student apply for admission if the results for qualifying examination are awaited?
    Students appearing in qualifying examination in the coming year may also apply. Their admission shall however be provisional, subject to confirmation upon obtaining qualifying marks.

    Admission Brochure can be downloaded from our website or it can be obtained from BGU Campus.

  • Q4. What is the process of admission to the program?
    Candidate needs to fill online form with the prescribed fee and the candidate must have a valid CLAT/ LSAT/ AILET/ XLET/ BGU admission test score. Admission shall be made on merit.

  • Q5. What is the deadline for admission?
    The last date for submitting completed application form is given in Admission Brochure and on university website.

  • Q6. What are the different payment options available for taking the admission?
    Demand Draft, Cheque, Credit Card and online payment facilities are available.

  • Q7. Does BGU arrange for Educational loan through banks?
    Birla Global University courses are credible and popular. Educational loans are provided by all Nationalized Banks. Students have to approach the Bank of their choice.

  • Q8. Is there any scholarship/ fee waiver/ free-ship for the meritorious students?
    Yes, according to the University norms.

  • Q9. What is the prescribed syllabus for entrance exams for students?
    We do not have any entrance exams till now. The candidate needs to fill the online application form along with payment of the prescribed application fee and the admission shall be made on merit.

  • Q10. What is minimum attendance requirement to appear in semester examinations?
    Minimum attendance requirement to appear in the end-term examination in each semester is 75% as prescribed by Bar Council of India.

  • Q11. Do I get practical experience while studying law through clinical courses?
    Yes. In fact BCI mandatorily suggests the introduction of clinical courses in the Law programs so as to give students practical experience in law while they are still studying law. In addition to this, BSOL conducts workshops, Moot Court Competitions, Legal Aid Camps in collaboration with State Legal Service authorities and other organisations.

  • Q12. Are students required to intern during the course?
    Yes. As per the BCI regulations, every student is required to intern for a minimum of 20 weeks during the course of 5 years.

  • Q13. Are sufficient books available in the library?
    Apart from the central library of the University, the law library consists of rich collection of Law Books, Journals, SCC, Manual, AIR Reports inter alia other Journals and authoritative Texts. Database of National and International Journals and Cases including SCC Online, ProQuest etc can be accessed in the digital library.

    Library timings are from 9:00am – 9:00pm

  • Q15. Is the campus WIFI enabled?
    Yes. The campus is Wi-fi enabled and is equipped with latest computing facilities. All computers are connected to the internet with a bandwidth of 110 Mbps.

    No. Facilities of digital-library and law library are available. The relevant readings and cases may be provided by the concerned teacher online.

  • Q17. What are the placement opportunities from the campus?
    The University has a central placement cell that takes care of the University placements.

    Birla Global University has a well-defined anti-ragging policy for all its students including law students. University has constituted University level Anti Ragging Committee and Anti Ragging Squads to check the menace of ragging in the campus in conformity with the guidelines issued by the UGC.

    BSOL offers various social/ cultural societies and technical committees. Our students are associated with social clubs like Rotary Club, Red Cross Society etc, involved in different social services like blood donation camps, each one teach one and relief camps. The student branches are regularly organizing competitions and technical events at the regional and national level. Various Guest lectures of eminent legal personalities are organized by the School of Law so that the students can get motivated &learn more about this dynamic profession.
